Temario

MODULES:

1. Language Analysis Module

  1. The scientific study of human language. Branches of linguistic study. What is grammar?

  2. Parts of Speech. The English tense system

  3. Structure of the English sentence

  4. Syntactic peculiarities and punctuation

  5. Semantics and pragmatics. Lexicology. Phonology

Teachers will discover how the English language works and how to approach teaching its functions in the classroom through communicative activities.

2. Teaching Principles and Methodologies

  1. Second language acquisition theories. How people learn and how people learn languages

  2. Learners’ needs, goals and motivation. Difference between learning and teaching

  3. Defining a teaching methodology. Micro and macro skills

  4. Existing teaching methods and approaches

  5. Level considerations in ESL. Strategies to teaching beginners in the target language

Teachers will research and debate on the processes and factors that intervene in language learning and will develop understanding and practical skills in classroom management and new target language presentation entirely conducted in L2 without translating.

3. Course and Class Structure

  1. Introduction to lesson planning. The syllabus and the lesson plan

  2. Introducing new target language through activities. Working on students’ fluency

  3. Working on students’ accuracy

  4. Planning activities for specific purposes. Using textbooks

  5. Staging and sequencing of activities. The rhythm of the class

Teachers will acquire practical skills on lesson planning and will learn to create and adapt activities for different purposes, ages and levels. Special emphasis on activities for low level students will be paid.

4. Teaching Proficiency Module

  1. Anticipating learners’ problems. Assessment and evaluation procedures

  2. Classroom management and teacher-student interaction

  3. Adapting to specific class formats: young learners, big groups, web classes. Transmitting in class

  4. Testing the level and proficiency of English learners. Tests and exams

  5. The teacher’s profile, video CV, cover letter and job interview techniques. Professional

    development

Teachers will learn to evaluate the linguistic competences and progress of learners. They will develop skills in transmitting in the classroom and guiding learners to knowledge according to the level, age and specific learning purposes.
Last, but not least, they will elaborate on their teachers’ profiles displaying in a natural and convincing way all their personal and professional skills.
